Abstract:
Accurate 3D capture of full dental arches remains a significant challenge in digital dentistry due to anatomical complexities and potential human error. Two prominent technologies—Photogrammetry and Intraoral Scanning (IOS)—offer distinct approaches to this task. Photogrammetry utilizes external photographic methods and fiducial markers to generate highly precise implant data but requires intraoral scanning to capture soft tissues and occlusal relationships. It involves complex setups and significant financial investment. In contrast, IOS directly captures intraoral digital impressions with high efficiency but may struggle with full-arch accuracy in areas with limited visibility. While IOS is more accessible and user-friendly, photogrammetry provides superior accuracy for implant positioning. Each method presents unique strengths and limitations, making their application dependent on clinical objectives and budget considerations. Full Article
